As we get closer to the peak of wedding season, it’s fitting to talk about popular trends and styles in wedding dresses this spring and summer. There always seems to be an endless selection of designs and silhouettes to choose from when gown shopping, but this year we will see an emphasis of styles on the bride’s back with the ever growing popularity of open and keyhole back designs. Think detailed embellishments, lower cuts, and illusion meshes to deliver a tasteful, yet subtle sense of sexy as the bride walks the aisle.
Lace remains a classic material for gowns, but thanks to the Duchess of Cambridge; Kate Middleton’s lace sleeves and conservative cuts have grown in popularity as brides continue to jump on the lace-y bandwagon. Beside sleeves, we also see the rise of more conservative lines than the frequently sighted strapless looks in previous years. Brides wanting more coverage will be satisfied with the growing selection of straps, three quarter or full sleeves, illusion straps and even necklines.
Statement making trends of this year include unconventional colour choices. From blush to tea rose to baby pink, this neighboring family of reds is dominating as a romantic choice for wedding gowns. On the contrary, monochromatic schemes of black and white are fashion forward and fitting for the bride looking for an edgier appeal with this bold and dynamic duo.
In terms of hemlines, we are seeing shorter frocks and borderline bridesmaids’ hems with bridal gowns adopting the tea lengths. The fashionable high-low hemline is also a notable trend along with kneelengths making a rare, but fresh combat on wedding gowns sans train.
Brides opting to show off some gorgeous shoes or perhaps having the option of a second evening dress can consider this shortened cut to take them to great lengths while dancing the night away. When it comes to accessories, most brides tend to keep it minimal as to keep the attention on their wedding dress. However, a less detailed, yet elegant dress can be elevated with dramatic veils (cathedral or tiered lengths) which are all the rage this season. Fancy cover ups are also reporting to be trend worthy as they not only provide warmth in the cooler evenings, but can deliver a different look to the gown throughout the day.
